A virtually unknown boxing association, British Amateur Boxing Association (BABA) has been chosen to administrate Great Britain Olympic boxing and is likely to be given direct funding.
*Perhaps Rip Van Winkle is more accurate because it would appear that BABA has been asleep for over 50+ years.
The Beijing Olympic Games Senior Coach Terry Edwards is a leading figure in BABA (it reminds one of the deemed politically incorrect nursery rhyme.)
Coach Edwards and Paul King were reported to have clashed head-on in Beijing although Mr, King has denied this happened.
Whether he did or did not the decision by Sport UK is a black eye for Mr. King.
An ABAE insider told Boxing Action it could be the final straw that broke the camel’s back and the split will get wider and with finance badly needed by ABAE it is going to add more serious problems to the rising catalogue of troubles that have been manufactured by ABAE
We will wait for an official announcement but unless there is a valuable surprise packet contained in this decision some hard punching may be expected from Boxing Action.
The former boss of Sport UK who left in mystery surroundings when Richard Caborn MP was made Chairman of ABAE, Derek Mapp is now the Chairman of BABA. ~
