Since the time this article first appeared earlier this month on Boxing Action we are delighted to to see, at long last, newspapers have published articles on the finances and confirmed doubts on the management of a large section of amateur boxing in England.

It is extremely difficult to understand why in Government political circles and in the media there is a deliberate shying away from the fact that amateur boxing in the UK continues to lurch from one disaster to another, and despite an urgent serious overhaul of the sport is needed, the matter is treated as if all is well when it is anything but well.

It was another classic example of a very good big ‘un beating a very good little’ un when on the call of the ringside judges the hand of Floyd Mayweather was proudly raised aloft to signal that he had beaten the distinguished Mexican champion Juan Manuel Marquez.
