'Nice Guy' Joe Dwyer was the popuar choice as President of NBFA upon the expiry of the four year term of Rex Walker. An 'All-America' guy, Mr. Dwyer is a superb choice and NBFA is fortunate to have such worthwhile boxing person to take over from the outgoing President Rex Walker who has been a first class President and will be a hard act to follow.
WBC President Jose Sulaiman was aware of this fact and once again his careful guiding hand and wise head has benefitted boxing and NBFA.

JOSE SULAIMAN “UNCOVERED” JOE DWYER
In a very emotional and spectacular ceremony which was mostly led by WBC Executive Secretary, Mauricio Sulaiman, and in the presence of the President of the organization, Jose Sulaiman, and over 200 attendants, including important media such as Fightnews, Notifight, EFE, AFP, Reuters, as well as the main Mexican media representatives (newspapers, radio and television) WBC President announced the name of Rex Walker´s successor as President of the Nortth American Boxing Federation.
Amid loud applause from the attendants, Commissioners, many of them from 19 commissions of 40 countries, Joe Dwyer´s name was clearly heard, as he will take the position in a few hours, as the statutory 4 years for Rex Walker as leader of the organization have finished.
Dwyer (70) is an American man who has been involved in boxing during most of his life, first as an amateur fighter, shaping a remarkable career of 59 fights with 56 wins, 27 of them by knockout, and only losses in the Middleweight division.
Born in New York, Dwyer has subsequently held important positions in boxing: New York Athletic Commission Inspector in 1953, New York Athletic Commission Chief Inspector in 1984, Judge, and Vice-President of the organization he will be chairing as of today.
The opening ceremony was officially inaugurated by Licenciada Cora Amalia Castillo Madrid, General Secretary of the Government of Quintana Roo, representing Licenciado Felix Gonzalez Canto, the charismatic Governor of the State.
Our President, Jose Sulaiman Chagnon, when addressing the audience, after congratulating local Governor Licenciado Felix Gonzalez Canto, said: “I feel thankful for everyone´s presence, the presence of the best people in the world, the boxing people”.
In the meeting there were several important World Boxing Council people such as: Gabriel Penagaricano, from Puerto Rico, Melvina Lathan (New York Athletic Commission) and Robert Lenhardt (WBC Legal Counsel) both from the U.S.A., as well as WBC Treasurer Juan Sanchez, José Manzur, Roy Van Putten, Alberto Guerra, the representative of the local Mayor, Lenin Centeno, in addition to local promoter Pepe Gomez, who has been considered among the best promoters since 2006 up to now, and the South Korean Commissioners that will be in charge of organizing the 47th World Boxing Council World Convention to be held on Jeju island in November.
Another happening in the ceremony was the presentation of the WBC green and gold belt to legendary Roberto “Manos de Piedra” (Hands of Stone) Duran, former four-time world champion; furthermore he was introduced to the audience as a special guest of the NABF Convention. ~
