WBC PRESIDENT AS WELL AS WBC EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR WILL TRAVEL TO MERIDA TO ATTEND THE FIGHT BETWEEN ROJAS AND ESPADAS
World Boxing Council President and WBC Executive Director, Dr. Jose Sulaiman Chagnon, and Mauricio Sulaiman Saldivar respectively, will travel tonight to Merida, Yucatan, in order to attend the official weigh-in of Featherweight world champion, Elio Rojas, of The Dominican Republic, and his challenger, Mexican fighter and former world champion of the same division, Gustavo Espadas Jr., to be held on the 20th/02/10.
Of course, they will also attend the aforementioned bout, as supervisors, one day after, on Saturday. As it is known, the fight, in which the WBC Featherweight world title will be put on the line, has awaken huge interest not only in the capital of Yucatan, but also in all that region of the Southeast of Mexico, reason for which the success of this promotion is guaranteed.

SUCCESSFUL MEETING FOR “NIGHT OF CHAMPIONS II”
A preliminary meeting that was held by the organizers of the Second Night of Champions yesterday in Mexico City can be described as a success.
David Walker (Great Britain) and Neil Jones (Wales) exchanged impressions and worked hard for several hours at the World Boxing Council Offices, led by WBC President, Dr. Jose Sulaiman Chagnon, together with WBC Executive Director, Mauricio Sulaiman Saldivar.
Many names of the most distinguished boxers of the last half of a century were mentioned; most of whom will be in attendance at the event, which has been announced to take place this coming July 29th through 31st, in Cardiff, Wales, one of the places of the British Isles with the highest production of world champions.
Among other things, it was agreed that in addition to the champions, the most outstanding female fighters in boxing will be in attendance. Names such as Laila Ali, Christy Martin, Mia St. John, and others were mentioned.
Furthermore, Muay Thai champions and top level fighters will be included.
DAVID DIAZ GOT THROUGH THE MANDATORY PRE-WEIGH-IN
At the World Boxing Council Offices, the WBC were advised a letter had been received from Joel Campuzano, Chairman of the Illinois Athletic Commission, in the U.S.A.
The headquarters of IA Commission are located in the capital of the state, Springfield.
The letter informed the WBC that former Lightweight world champion, David Diaz, of Chicago, had been through the thirty-day pre-weigh-in for his bout against Mexican fighter Humberto “Zorrita” Soto, that will be held this coming March 13th, in Arlington, Texas, and a battle in which the vacant WBC Lightweight world title will be put on the line.
This title was held by undefeated knock-out artist of Venezuela, Edwin Valero not long ago.
The information given by Commissioner Campuzano, was also sent to Luis Escalona, WBC Medical Control Supervisor, who lives in McAllen, Texas.
DIRIGENTES DEL CMB A MERIDA PARA PELEA ROJAS VS. ESPADAS
El Presidente y el Director Ejecutivo del Consejo Mundial de Boxeo, Doctor José Sulaimán Chagnón y Licenciado Mauricio Sulaimán Saldívar respectivamente, viajarán esta noche con destino a Mérida, Yucatán, para estar presentes mañana en el pesaje oficial del campeón mundial de peso pluma, de República Dominicana, Elio Rojas, y su retador, el mexicano y ex monarca de la división, Gustavo Espadas hijo.
Por supuesto también asistirán –y lo harán como supervisores- un día después, el sábado, a la pelea entre ellos en la que estará en juego la corona mencionada. El encuentro, como es sabido, ha despertado un enorme interés no sólo en la capital yucateca, sino en toda aquella región del sureste mexicano, por lo que está garantizado el éxito en esta promoción

REUNION EXITOSA PARA LA “ NOCHE DE CAMPEONES II”
Como éxito se puede calificar una reunión preliminar que tuvieron ayer en esta capital los organizadores de la Segunda Noche de Campeones.
Los británicos David Walker y Neil Jones cambiaron impresiones y trabajaron arduamente durante varias horas en las oficinas del Consejo Mundial de Boxeo, bajo la batuta de nuestro Presidente, el Doctor José Sulaimán Chagnón, y también se contó con la presencia del Secretario General del organismo, el Licenciado Mauricio Sulaimán Saldívar.
Se manejaron muchos nombres de los más ilustres boxeadores del último medio siglo, la mayor parte de los cuales estarán presentes en el evento, anunciado para el próximo julio 29-31 en Cardiff, País de Gales, uno de los lugares con mayor producción de campeones mundiales en las Islas Británicas.
Entre otras cosas, se acordó que además de los campeones, también estarán representados ahí, los elementos femeninos más destacados que ha tenido y tiene el deporte de los puños. Se mencionaron nombres como los de Laila Ali, Christy Martin, Mia St. John, etcétera.
Además serán incluídos campeones y figuras de primera línea del Muaythai.
DAVID DIAZ SUPERO LA BASCULA DEL PREPESAJE REGLAMENTARIO
En las oficinas del Consejo Mundial de Boxeo se recibió hoy una misiva del señor Joel Campuzano, Presidente de la Comisión Atlética de Illinois, en Estados Unidos, con sede en la capital del estado, Springfield, en la que informa que el ex campeón mundial de peso ligero David Díaz, de Chicago, superó la báscula en su prepesaje de un mes para la batalla que sostendrá el 13 del próximo marzo en Arlington, Texas, contra el mexicano Humberto “Zorrita” Soto, y en la que estará en juego la corona mundial vacante de los pesos livianos, que hasta hace poco ostentó el noqueador venezolano invicto, Edwin Valero.
La información por parte del comisionado Campuzano, también fue enviado al señor Luis Escalona, Supervisor de Control Médico del CMB, quien radica en McAllen, Texas. ~
