WILL THE KATSIDIS 'BACKYARD' BE AS LUCRATIVE AS ‘THE DOORSTEP’ OF MITCHELL?
Promoter Frank Warren must be confident of luring interim WBO World lightweight champion Michael Katsidis to England to defend his title against hot lightweight WBO No.1 challenger Kevin MItchel.
The manager of Michael, Brendon Smith said, "Mitchell reminds me a lot of Michael and I believe he would have no problem to come down to our backyard if he has to fight for a world title."
The real problem is likely to be will Team Katsidis be able to match the offer that will be made by Team Mitchell?
Boxing Action recently reported that the new owners of West Ham football (soccer) club want to stage the Katsidis versus Mitchell at their stadium.
The two owners, David Gold and David Sullivan, whose wealth has to be counted in hundreds of millions are both big supporters of boxing and it could prove difficult for Team Katsidis to match the revenuer income that would come from staging the championship contest in an open venue in the East End of London, which is virtually on the doorstep of Kevin Mitchell.
Last week David Gold offered to loan a rival football club facing bankruptcy £10 million.
You may depend the Australians will try hard to secure home advantage for Michael Katsidis and the low value of sterling currency will be in their favour but the favourite location has to be England, and West Ham football club the likely location. ~
