THIS WBO WORLD TITLE FIGHT APPEARS TO BE A BOXING CONNOISSEURS FIGHT.

ON SATURDAY NIGHT it's two World title fights in Manchester.  One title fight pits the skills of Billy Joe Saunders against the aggression of Andy Lee. the second World title fight features 'No love lost' between them'Liam Smith and  Jimmy Kelly.

SMITH said, “No problems at all with my weight, bang on 11st and ready to smash Kelly to bits for all his talk!”

KELLY said , “For  a World title fight I’m pretty calm about it! I can’t wait, I’m not making any promises or threats, but upsets can happen.

Supporter of both ANDY LEE  BILLY JOE SAUNDERS have stated their claims why their man will be victorous and Jimmy Tibbs, who trains Billy Joe,  has expressed no doubts Billy Joe will win.

No doubt the supporters of Andy have an opposite view. By way of a welcome change the toxic bad mouthing for this inftriguing fight has happily been absent.

This indicates mutual respect for each other by the boxers.

LIKEWISE THERE IS NO LACK OF CONFIDENCE IN TEAMS SMITH AND KELLY.

ALTHOUGHT WE HAVE BEEN TOLD THE LANGUAGE USED HAS OFTEN BEEN DIFFERENT.

"I CAN EASILY SEE THIS GOING TO THE SCORECARDS - SAUNDERS HAS THE SKILL TO AVOID LEE'S BIG PUNCHES YET I DOUBT HE HAS SUFFICIENT  POWER  TO STOP A MAN OF LEE'S QUALITY; JULIO CESAR CHAVEZ JR IS THE ONLY MAN O DO SO IN THE LAST EIGHT YEARS AND THE CHALLENGER HASN'T STOPPED ANYONE AT WORLD CLASS LEVEL SO FAR IN HIS 22-FIGHT CAREER."

 LIVE ON BOXNATION

Andy Lee puts his WBO Middleweight title on the line on tonight against the undefeated Billy Joe Saunders in what promises to be an exciting encounter in a vociferous atmosphere. These two vastly popular fighters draw on their traveller roots as well as their ringcraft to garner a generous following with fight fans, and Saunders particularly talks the game to back up his boxing brain and ability.

Lee is clearly the bigger puncher of the two men, but in truth neither have a spectacular KO punch .Saunders is, in this writer's opinion at least, the more skillful of the two. It's tempting to pitch this fight as the puncher v the tactician, but I wonder if Lee's boxing skills are slightly underrated and he has certainly been in with stronger fighters overall throughout his career.

Most boxing fans would have last seen Saunders in his fight with Chris Eubank Jr (himself a serious prospect for a world title in the not too distant future and possibly against the winner of this encounter), an event remembered as much for the bitter war of words leading up to the bout as the fight itself, which was in truth a great contest that Saunders shaded by the tightest of split decisions.

it says a lot about Saunders' potential and the esteem he is held in as a boxer that he is favourite at 5/6 going into this clash, despite Lee having the belt and Billy Joe never having faced an opponent of this quality, outside arguably Eubank Jr - Lee has the bigger names on his record without question.

I can easily see this going to the scorecards - Saunders has the skill to avoid Lee's big punches yet I doubt he has the power to stop a man of Lee's quality; Julio Cesar Chavez Jr is the only man to do so in the last eight years and BJ hasn't stopped anyone at world class level so far in his 22-fight career.

It says much about Saunders' respect for Lee that the trash-talk has been kept to a minimum in the lead up to this one - the challenger knows this will be a big ask: does he have all the answers to the questions asked of a world champion?
