FOLLOWING A VOTING POLL BY THE WORLD BOXING COUNCIL, MEXICAN JOURNALISTS. FANS AND MANY OTHERS THROUGH THE WBC WEBSITE, THE WBC WILL ANNOUNCE THE BEST BOXERS OF 2009.

THEY WILL EACH RECEIVE  THEIR DISTINGUISHED AWARDS IN A SPECIAL CEREMONY TO BE HELD ON A DATE TO BE DECIDED  IN FEBRUARY.

The WORLD CHAMPION OF THE YEAR is the King of the Heavyweights, Vitali Klitschko, of Ukraine, with a total of three defences within this period of time. These defences exceed the usual number ones in this division.

Vitaliknocked out Juan Carlos Gomez and Chris Arreola in March and September, respectively, and also defeated Kevin Johnson in a very clear decision.

 The BOXER OF THE YEAR is Manny Pacquiao, of The Philippines, WBC Diamond World Champion, and holder of the very first and historic Diamond green and gold belt.

 The COMEBACK OF THE YEARwas made by Floyd Mayweather, of the U.S.A., who came back to the rings after almost two years of having retired, being the only fighter who has won five championships as well as five WBC green and gold belts in five different WBC divisions, having faced rivals of the highest level of recognition in the world.

 The REVELATION OF THE YEAR is Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, of Mexico, with a record of 30 wins, 22 of them by knockout and a draw.

 With seven wins in the year and the aforementioned facts, “Canelo” has already become an idol of Mexican fans.

 Tomorrow, the World Boxing Council will announce the names of other boxers and fights that will also be awarded by the  WBC organization.
